664729a55c text: Reverting 03443ffc
Resolves #11409
After Jehan's update to
gimp_drawable_filter_refresh_crop () in
0157a958, it no longer calls the cropping
functions which this commit was intended
to work around.

Additionally, thanks to other changes in
the filter code since then, reverting this
commit resolves an issue where some
Render filters would not update as you
typed more characters.

6a8e426002 text: Prevent CRITICAL when modifying non-raster text layer
This patch prevents the following CRITICAL:
gimp_rasterizable_restore: assertion
'gimp_rasterizable_is_rasterized (rasterizable)' failed

It is possible to call gimp_text_layer_set () on a text layer
that is not rasterized. Since gimp_rasterizable_restore ()
is always run even when we don't need to restore the layer
to non-rasterized format, it threw a CRITICAL. This patch
adds a check for gimp_rasterizable_is_rasterized (), similar
to earlier in this same function, to prevent the call on
non-rasterized layers.

926d5c6daa app, libgimp*, plug-ins: fix previous commit and add gimp_cairo_surface_get_buffer().
The previous commit was not taking into account usages of
gimp_cairo_surface_create_buffer(), other than the text layer rendering
usage, as it was focused on fixing #14970.

In particular, in other pieces of code, we were using a temporary
GeglBuffer as a way to edit the original Cairo surface but the syncing
back was not happening anymore. So previous commit was breaking all
thumbnails of layers or images, as well as PDF export for all raster
layers.

After some thought, I decided to implement a new function
gimp_cairo_surface_get_buffer() which would do what
gimp_cairo_surface_create_buffer() was doing, but adding a boolean flag
to declare whether or not we were expecting to sync back into the Cairo
surface's data. After all, when we don't need to sync back, better avoid
the useless work of copying possibly huge data.

I also added back the possibility of returning a linear-memory backed
buffer, after some discussion with pippin. Because for very small
surfaces, and if we are indeed looking to sync back into the source
Cairo surface, the advantages of using a linear buffer may still be
worth it, even though it's not true for the general case (where tiled
buffers will be much more efficient). I used 4096 (64^2 because our
current tile dimensions are 64 right now in GIMP), though this number is
kinda random and doesn't matter too much (it doesn't have to be the
square of the tile's width or height). I don't put any info about this
in the new function's documentation because developers should not have
any expectations on the type of buffer they get (only whether or not it
will sync back to the source).

As a consequence of all this, gimp_cairo_surface_create_buffer() has
been deprecated as of GIMP 3.2, though it will still work the same. The
new function will be recommended as a replacement.

ac01a8b625 text: Add alpha when reverting text rasterization
Resolves #4275
Text layers should have transparency when they are
not rasterized. It is possible to remove the alpha channel
when a text layer is rasterized, which causes a CRITICAL
when gimp_text_layer_render () runs to re-render the
vector-based text layer when the rasterization is reverted.

This patch adds a check in the set_rasterized () function to
verify the text layer still has an alpha channel when it's being
converted back to a vector-based layer. If the alpha channel
was removed, it is restored before re-rendering.

This commit prevents the on-canvas text editor from being dragged outside

1ca6faab0d app, menus: new actions layers-rasterize and layers-retrieve.
These 2 new actions are meant to be usable on all 3 types of non-raster
(and non-group) layers, i.e. link, text and vector layers, to
respectively rasterize and un-rasterize them.

This will also work with multiple selected layers, and is not specific
to one type of layers.

I also change how gimp_text_layer_discard() used to work, by marking the
text layer as modified instead of actually discarding all text
information. The main consequence of this was that a layer rasterized
this way was forever lost. Now it can actually be revived as a text
layer, not only through the new layers-retrieve action, but also by
trying to edit it with the Text tool, which will trigger the same dialog
as when a text layer had been rasterized by editing it with a paint
tool.

Whereas the label of "layers-rasterize" seem to be quite straightforward
(simply "Rasterize" per discussions in gimp-ux#252), I am really unsure
of the label for "layers-retrieve". Further UX discussions should help
on this front.

03443ffcc1 text: Don't call size_changed when typing
This patch provides a temporary fix for issue
14442. Currently, gimp_drawable_size_changed ()
is called whenever a drawable's size changes (like by
scaling, rotating, resizing, etc). When called, it resizes
filters to the layer's new width and height.
Unfortunately, it is currently also called when typing new
text, as that changes the layer size too. This causes filters
like Drop Shadow to be cut-off because they originally
extended outside the bounds of the layer.

This patch checks if the layer has been rasterized - if it hasn't,
then size_changed () is not called. As stated, this is a temporary
fix for GIMP 3.1.4, and will likely be replaced with a more
permanent fix for GIMP 3.2

e992ca3e51 app, libgimp, pdb, plug-ins: GimpText* using GeglColor.
One of the big improvement in this commit is that text layers are now much
better at space accuracy. They were already space-aware, yet rendered as sRGB u8
only before being converted to the image's space. It means that text layers had
the following limitations:

* Any color out of sRGB gamut were trimmed.
* Precision was always 8-bit (even if the image was high-bit depth).

Now GimpTextLayout keeps track of its source space (for RGB and CMYK only, this
won't be as easy when we will support more backend, since Cairo has only RGB
support for image data) and the image TRC (in case it bypasses the color space's
TRB) and it draws within this gamut and space.
It means first that we are not limited to sRGB colors; we will draw text main
color in the full image gamut, with still 2 remaining limitations:

* Unbounded colors are impossible because Pango format (to color text) uses
hexadecimal (so even with half/float images, you can't draw out-of-gamut text
  unfortunately).
* Main color precision is still 8-bit, yet a tiny bit better than before as we
at least follow TRC (so we avoid some of the precision loss when converting,
even though the bit-depth is still the biggest loss).

The outline color on the other hand is drawn through Cairo API entirely, in
float. This means that the outline color will now be without any precision loss.

Note that this depends on CAIRO_FORMAT_RGBA128F which is only available since
Cairo 1.17.2 which is not in Debian bookworm (our current baseline for GIMP
3.0). It means that the old precision will still happen with older Cairo
version, as determined by #if code at compilation.

6d5aaa995f app: new storage format for the text layer parasite implies XCF version bump.
The new parasite format cannot be loaded by old versions of GIMP. This means we
must bump the XCF version (even though technically we didn't really touch the
XCF format itself because text layers are stored in a hackish way, yet text
layers are just too important nowadays to not care).

Nevertheless if an old XCF with text layers was loaded and the text layers left
untouched, the old parasite will be saved back as-is. Therefore no need to bump
the XCF version in this specific case. Only when we created new text layers or
edited existing ones.

3afdd7c5c2 app: in GimpDrawable::set_buffer(), take bounds rect instead of offset only
In GimpDrawable::set_buffer(), and the corresponding
gimp_drawable_set_buffer_full() function, take a bounds rectangle,
which specifies both the drawable's new offset and its new size,
instead of only taking the new offset. In
gimp_drawable_real_set_buffer(), set the item size according to the
rect dimensions, instead of the buffer dimensions. The rect's
width/height may be 0, in which case the buffer's dimensions are
used.

Adapt the rest of the code.

We do this in preparation for maintaining the drawable's bounding
box separately from its logical bounds, allowing the drawable
content to extend beyond its bounds.

foo_get_instance_private() functions, all of which are available in
the GLib versions we depend on.

This commit only covers types registered using one of the
G_DEFINE_FOO() macros (i.e., most types), but not types with a
custom registration function, of which we still have a few -- GLib
currently only provides a (non-deprecated) public API for adding a
private struct using the G_DEFINE_FOO() macros.

8226265b12 Issue #1954 - GIMP-2.99 color changes when converting between...
...linear and perceptual precision

Under certain circumstances (e.g. the image has no color profile),
GimpLayer's implementation of GimpDrawable::convert_type() didn't have
enough information to do the right color space conversion.

Intead of messing with stuff like "set profile in between doing a and b",
simply add a "src_profile" parameter to GimpDrawable::convert_type() so
the complete color space conversion information is available without
relying on obscure states that could change in the future.

Make sure all callers pass the right src_profile, particularly in
gimp_image_convert_precision(), which also needed fixing.

c83f0e88af app: add virtual transform/type-conversion functions to GimpLayer
The GimpLayer implementation of the GimpItem transform functions,
and the GimpDrawable convert_type() function, apply their operation
to both the layer and its mask. The subclasses of GimpLayer --
GimpGroupLayer and GimpTextLayer -- override some of these
functions, providing their own logic for the layer part, and
duplicating the mask part.

Avoid this duplication by adding a set of virtual transform and
type-conversion functions to GimpLayer. Have the GimpLayer
implementaion of the corresponding GimpItem and GimpDrawable
functions use these functions to apply the operation to the layer,
while taking care of the mask themselves. Have GimpLayer's
subclasses override the new virtual functions, instead of the
GimpItem and GimpDrawable ones.

Note that the existing implementation of convert_type() in
GimpTextLayer neglected to convert the mask, hence text layer masks
retained their old format after conversion. This issue is fixed as
a side effect of this commit.
